2019 – all about fun
This year I decided I wanted to read things that really excite me. Here are some I’ve been reading and some I’m anticipating this year:
Storm of Locusts by Rebecca Roanhorse
Upgrade Soul by Ezra Clayton Daniels
Monk! by Youssef Daoudi
Abbott by Saladin Ahmed and Sami Kivela
Infidel by Pornsack Pichetshote and Aaron Campbell
2017-18 – Science Fiction Fantasy
2017 and 2018 were all about exploring science fiction and fantasy. These fast-paced novels/short stories filled with magic and inter-galactic battles have been keeping me occupied. A few of my favorites:
Ancillary Justice by Ann Leckie (the whole trilogy is brilliant and my favorite is probably the third book)
The Mirror Empire by Kameron Hurley
Dawn by Octavia E. Butler
The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss
“Vampires in the Lemon Grove” by Karen Russell
2016 – Graphic Novels
I decided on the cusp of 2015 and 2016 that I wanted to read more and I wanted to read the unfamiliar. I love comic books (at 30 I can finally state that with some authority), but had really not read much. Now, I’m reading so hard and so widely that I am really starting to understand the genre. Here are my favs so far:
Saga of the Swamp Thing – Alan Moore
Bitch Planet – Kelly Sue DeConnick
The Long Halloween – Jeph Loeb
Persepolis: The Story of a Childhood – Marjane Satrapi
